The pencil touches the paper.
I draw. A shape appears, then another.
I add a colour, I stop, I
carry on.
The distance bothers me. I move a shape closer.
I look. My breathing changes. I
move it a few more millimetres.
I feel and analyse at the same time.
The sensation is part of the analysis. My gaze,
my breathing, my muscle tension, the
movement of my hand all play a part in
the development of the drawing.
I think with all of this.
I add a colour. It alters what I
perceive. My gaze wanders elsewhere within the
drawing. I correct a shape, I wait, I
look again.
Each intervention produces a new
perception. It triggers a new analysis
and guides the next gesture.
Sensation, reflection and gesture
work together.
I move. I look. I feel. I analyse.
I start again.
The drawing takes shape through this back-and-forth.
At one point, my breathing eases. My
gaze continues to roam across the page. My
hand no longer seeks where to intervene.
I look again.
Nothing needs to be moved.
I stop.
