As an advertiser, he belonged to a world where ideas had to be summed up in a few words, strike the right chord and stick in people’s minds. But François Roque did not seem to be defined solely by his profession. His fondness for Zappa, a rebellious musician who refused to be pigeonholed, speaks volumes about a temperament drawn to the less-travelled paths. As for his passion for old things, it speaks of a curiosity about objects that have lived, forgotten images and the stories they hold within them.
He is remembered as a man whose passions shaped a unique personality: his gaze fixed on advertising, his ear attuned to free-spirited music, and his eye capable of lingering on what others would have overlooked. In a world in such a hurry to replace and forget, this attentiveness was something precious.
To his loved ones, his friends and all those who shared his passions, Le Mague sends its most sincere thoughts. François Roque has left us, but the ideas, the music and the objects to which he devoted his attention will continue to speak of him. We were just Facebook friends, as they say, but I held him in very high regard.
