But who on earth was out to get Philippe Brun?

There are political purges that are straightforward, carefully orchestrated, almost tedious. And then there is the case of Philippe Brun. A candidacy for the Socialist primary that seemed to be on track, with the necessary endorsements secured, and suddenly, just hours before validation, (…)

Micro and macro.

“ Up close, a form reveals what it is made of.” At what scale does a form cease to be a form and become matter? Seen from Earth, it is a planet. Seen from the sky, it is a flower. I am the bird soaring through the atmosphere, I am the caterpillar crawling across (…)

One line leads to another.

‘As the line takes shape, something becomes clearer within me.’ Does the line take shape on the page as the thought takes shape in the mind? Some thoughts do not require words. They require a line, a colour, a rhythm. Shapes do not merely illustrate an idea. They think. A (…)

Daido Moriyama: creating art from failed photographs!

There is something deeply heartening about seeing, in 2026, a major institution devote an exhibition to a photographer who has spent a good part of his life flouting the rules of ‘good photography’. Blur, grain, rough framing, blocked-up blacks, movement, accidents: in Daido Moriyama’s work, (…)

In all its intensity.

“No presence must diminish so that another may appear.” How can several intensities be at their maximum at the same time? Everything happens. The feel of a garment, a seam, a label, a scent wafting through a room, the smell of a household product, the texture of a food. Every (…)

What settles.

“What is not consciously retained may nevertheless leave a trace.” How does an unselected perception persist in the drawing? A drawing never begins with the first stroke. Long before the hand touches the paper, the eyes, the body and the senses are already taking in shapes, colours, (…)

Don’t Kill The Cow: make sure you remember that name

I was immediately captivated by the talent and flow of the singer from Don’t Kill The Cow. There’s something about the way she uses her voice, carries a song and never overdoes it, which had me hooked almost straight away. And then I had a hunch. A real one. The sort of hunch you (…)

Don’t Kill The Cow : retenez bien ce nom

Oil crisis: are we heading for an economic lockdown?

What if the next lockdown weren’t decided by any government? No travel permits, no curfews, no shops forced to close, no police on the streets. Simply millions of people starting to go out less, drive less, travel less, buy less and consume less because their wallets are telling them to stay at (…)
