Why do we never see baby pigeons in towns and cities?

You’ve bound to have seen a pigeon before. Probably even several thousand. Small ones, big ones, grey ones, almost white ones, lame ones, arrogant ones – pigeons that strut past you with the confidence of a Parisian homeowner who’s just finished paying off their flat. But a baby pigeon? Never. (…)

When drawing becomes identity.

“Through drawing, I come to recognise what belongs to me.” How does a visual language, developed through a series of drawings, become a form of identity? I never set out to create a language that would be my own. It took shape as I drew. Certain shapes kept (…)

People think I’m calm.

‘What cannot be seen is nonetheless experienced.’ How can drawing explore the gap between what is perceived from the outside and what is experienced internally? Some wounds make no sound. The face remains still. The voice does not tremble. The movements continue. People often think (…)

What the shelter takes away.

“What protects me also alters what affects me.” ` What becomes of perception when that which protects it also mitigates what might affect it? I walked whilst the light was at its highest. The wind was blowing in my face. Every step demanded more of my body. It swept through (…)

The vocabulary of the senses.

‘Gesture knows words that I have never learnt to name.’ How do sensory experiences become a form of body language that each drawing draws upon and enriches? There is a vocabulary within my body that I have never chosen to learn. It has developed over time. A colour, a light, a sound, a (…)

No unit of measurement.

“Here, I know without measuring.” How can a practice yield precise knowledge without resorting to measurement? Outside of my creative work, I measure almost everything. I organise, I quantify, I calibrate. The quantities, timetables and durations give structure to my days. Without (…)

Ten per cent: why did the film fail to make a comeback?

It had almost everything it needed to succeed. A French TV series that had achieved cult status, an unchanged cast – Camille Cottin, Laure Calamy, Thibault de Montalembert, Nicolas Maury – the return of Fanny Herrero as a screenwriter, and, above all, a level of international recognition that is (…)

Gisèle Pelicot, victim of online hate: enough is enough

I’m so at a loss for words that I simply need to share my sadness and disgust at this unspeakable filth that’s swarming all over social media. For some time now, comments have been appearing beneath photos of Gisèle Pelicot, calling her an ‘actress’ or a ‘witch’, questioning her status as a (…)
